The extended artist-intention
I went to the museum and the most interestingpart for me was the war images of various wars and their histories, about death,killing and chaos. For example: women and children and the expression of fearon their faces, the soldiers shooting, dead people lying around. . . so manypeople have died because of war. I want to express the pain of death, the crueltyand coldness of war, and at the same time I want to also look at the moment ofdeath.
In the museum I saw a lot of pictureswhere people’s bodies were distorted, often their faces showed expressions ofhorror. When shooting I have used the body of the model, with twisted form andstrange action to express the terror of war. I have chosen a place related towar in which to shoot. At the same time, I will use close-ups showing theexpression of the model, and panoramas of the space and model’s bodyinteracting.
The locations that I have chosen areNorth Head, Takapuna Beach and Long Bay Beach.
Maungauika isa volcano forming a headland called North Head at the east end of the Waitemata Harbour in Auckland, inthe suburb of Devonport. Since 1885 the head was mainly used by themilitary as a coastal defence installation. The most attractive thing which hasbeen left is a network of accessible old bunkers and tunnels as its legacy. Thisprovided a structure very suitable for shooting my project, this is a placeabout World War II in the Pacific. While Takapuna Beach and Long Bay Beach,both have a lot of historic rock formations, with traces of history, and someof them have lines similar to traces of blood.
