Steven Klein生於美國羅德島，作為紐約最著名的時尚攝影師之一，他同樣精通於廣告、設計和個人作品。他為許多著名的客戶拍攝廣告宣傳大片，服務品牌有：Calvin Klein， D&G，Gucci，McQueen 和Nike 等。同時，他的名字也是各種時尚雜誌上的常客，代表性的雜誌有：W，Vogue， i-D，The Face，Numero， Arena等等。他的作品被無數次收入各種展覽，出現在他鏡頭下的重量級人物也不計其數，其中包括： Brad Pitt， Justin Timberlake， Ethan Hawke，David Beckham， Tom Ford和Madonna。
Steven 並非膜拜經典傳統之美，他的攝影作品更喜歡誇張的姿勢來表達肢體語言，同時又帶有對比強烈微妙的色彩。他的圖像有一種類似巴羅克風格的美感，向觀者傳達了一種模糊不定的困擾感。他的模特，有時出現於一些浮華誇張的佈景中，或是出現在某些模仿性虐待的場面佈景裏，表達一種令人震驚或清醒的情緒，而並非波瀾不驚的美麗。Steven不同尋常的影像代表了當代藝術和小報通俗攝影的互相融合。
在Steven的作品裏，總是籠罩一股陰沉之氣，有時攝影師的情緒看起來如此孤立。Klein作為頂級攝影師的最成功之處就在於，他創作了某些看似傷風敗俗卻又標誌性的形象，他找到了這些名人的“陰暗”與流行文化的契合點，並成功地將其販賣。
