早在明末清初，中原地区就出现了传授伊斯兰教知识的女学，宗旨在于拯救宗教教育。而随着中阿贸易的迅速发展，回族女学被赋予解决回族女性再教育和再就业问题的责任。
《女学》是我与女校学生同吃住，通过女性和文化持有者的视角来记录学生们的学习、生活。以期能用影像客观记录所见，揭开一直以来让人们产生误会的神秘面纱，让更多的人了解回族女学。
这是我对母族的一次自我观看，是一次内心充满矛盾的拍摄。在拍摄过程中，既看到女学为留守、单亲家庭的孩子提供了避难所，为贫困家庭的孩子提供了再教育的机会；又看到了地区风俗带给她们的生命不能承受之重，以及民办教育所存在的，如心理辅导缺失、饮食单一、基础课程过少等问题。
既看到女学中体现的女性自我意识和婚姻自由意识的觉醒；又看到她们对其自身的教育的忽视。
在严防宁夏、新疆等地伊斯兰教“沙化”“阿化”现象的局势下，宁夏的女学已经被全面关停。
