Photographs visually capture experiences within life that are often not captured by language alone. Photography is a powerful tool for understanding human experience and a useful healing strategy. So I use photography to explores people who have depression, which is a common mental disorder across all ages. Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional response to challenges in everyday life and sometimes the symptoms are not obvious, therefore making this disease all the more dangerous. At its worst, depression can lead to suicide. Although there are known effective treatments for depression, fewer than half of those affected in the world receive such treatments. People often ignore this problem and the society will discriminate against this mental illness as some people do not believe that depression is real. I use the collages to show the inner world of people with depression. In addition, I using black and white colors to express patients lost interest in this wonderful world. My aim is to bring awareness people’s and society’s attention to depression, while eliminating prejudice and discrimination against this mental illness.
